Inclusion/SEND Department Vision and Intent
The Inclusion Team supports a large number of children and young people with a whole range of special educational needs and disabilities, including sixteen with profound and multiple learning disabilities. Our aim is for students to spend the maximum amount of their time with their peers in classes. Some students spend some time in small groups for specific learning activities.
Students with profound and multiple learning disabilities and other complex needs receive their additional support from a complex needs teacher, a classroom practitioner and a team of teaching assistants. These students also make use of a sensory room, soft activity area, physiotherapy room and hygiene rooms located around the school site.
Other students receive their support from the Learning Support Provision. Staffing consists of a learning support teacher and a classroom practitioner and a team of teaching assistants. As well as providing in class support, we run a Year 7 Nurture Group, where students can take part in focused groups or receive individually tailored support.
Students who have social or emotional difficulties receive support from a team made up of a classroom practitioner and a team of teaching assistants. An area of the school known as “Newstart” is available for focused group and individual support sessions.
We are proud to be a fully inclusive school. Our curriculum and extra-curricular activities provide a range of opportunities for all learners to fully engage in their academic enrichment.
In order to provide students with the appropriate support, our inclusion department consists of three provisions:
*Complex Needs Provision
*Learning Support Provision
*Behaviour Support Provision
